Do you know where the optical module is used in the base station?

The communication triangle tower is composed of antenna, machine room, base station, feeder and supporting equipment. The antenna is on the top of the triangle tower, and there will be a machine room under the tower. The base station is logically divided into two parts: BBU and RRU. The RRU is responsible for signal transmission and reception, and the BBU is responsible for signal processing.

The distributed site separates the base station BBU and RRU. The RRU is hung on the tower, and the BBU is placed in the machine room under the tower. The CPRI protocol transmits physical layer data between the BBU and the RRU, which not only contains the carried data, but also contains a large amount of physical tier information.

The transmission carrier connecting BBU and RRU equipment is optical module and optical fiber. In the 2/3/4G network, the CPRI interface is generally sufficient for a 10Gbps optical module. In the 5G network, CPRI is also upgraded to eCPRI. At present, the fronthaul of the 5G bearer network mainly uses 25Gbps optical modules.
